Don't you find it interesting....

....that the flow of news on my Google Reader tails off significantly on weekends? I guess this still means there is a relationship between media information flows and the days of the week -- or that many other bloggers have other things to do on the weekend -- like the rest of us.

This is something I think about a lot. My sense is that for many people, use of the internet is still mainly in the context of work, what corporate America calls "stealing time." The computer itself is primarily an instrument of work. Just about nobody buys one thinking, "hey I can use this thing to blog!" Blogging is what you do when you should be working. It's interstitial. That's one reason everything good on the web is short-form "snacks." It has to be short-form to fit into the ordinary patterns of consumption. These things in your RSS reader are brief diversions from other activities, and often their creation is also a brief diversion from other activities, too. As is this comment--see ya.
