Canada: Land of the Pirates?
Variety reports that Warner Brothers announced it will no longer provide promotional and word-of-mouth screenings in Canada under the government makes the practice of bringing camcorders into movie theatres illegal. The company says that 70% of all pirated Warner films released over the last 18 months originated from Canada. While we can take those numbers with a grain of salt, it's more likely that this is part of a broader effort by American media firms to dictate IP policies in other countries. The New Yorker has an interesting piece about this.
