There's a piece on Cnet posted yesterday about proposed changes to the royalties U.S. commercial Internet radio services pay to record companies. It's obvious that the increased fees would be a serious blow to Internet-based radio stations. It's also obvious that Canadian Internet radio station operators will be watching these developments very closely.
In conjunction with discussions on Net Neutrality (follow this link for Canadian law expert Michael Geist's testimony on the subject before a recent session of Canada's Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology) and Digital Rights Management, there's been an awful lot of talk these days about putting an end to media abundance -- or at least about trying to manage it. I guess that too is obvious, isn't it?
