From the archives...

The archives section of the CBC's website has a fantastic excerpt of the program "The way it is" from 1968 featuring an interview with Sammy Davis Jr. that turns into an interview between Davis and two Vietnam war draft dodgers. The host of the program offers that "Davis is to entertainment what Ford is to walking" and then the interview begins with Davis arguing that he's happy to go to Vietnam to entertain the troops because "it's important to know that our boys are over there" and "that's what entertainers are for."

But stick around for the end, where, after talking to draft dodgers (with questions like "is it comfortable here?") and with a great tight side profile shot, Davis becomes more reflective:
"It's awful nice to know that our neighbouring country has a point of view that will accept our guys...With the tenor of our time in America..the way it is now, it would be impossible for them to exist, to help, in any way. Because when you get through wih the extremists, on the other side of the coin...they outnumber us. They are well organized. There are more good people than bad, but the bad people are better organized. You can find them in the Yellow Pages".
